Truck Driver Finds Better Way to Make Money

Hello. My name is Darryl Mason and I would like to show you a new way I have found to make money. I tried all of the other “traditional” ways to generate income, including the trucking business I started from scratch but never could achieve the results I needed nor did it give me the freedom I wanted…
I started my trucking business in January, 2004 after quitting my full-time job as a city bus driver. I started my business with the intention of “firing my boss,” and being an entrepreneur. And it wasn’t a bad business. I’ve achieved a certain degree of success with it, although in order to make money, I was still trading time for money. If the truck didn’t move that day, it didn’t make money. And there were times that the truck didn’t move sometimes for weeks at a time. Some contracts I landed were good and paid well and had great hours and gave me great home-time. Some did not and had me on the road 12-14 hours a day–operating illegally (and unsafe) some days–and eating ramen noodles.

So I decided to take action…

I started doing research and I found a business that I could do myself, at any location I chose, with the flexibility of working around my hours driving my truck. I’m not the most technically savvy person and I needed to know the even I could work this business. Now I’m excited because I have learned how to generate huge amounts of income from home! And all I needed was some simple internet marketing training, a laptop, and a cell phone! I learned how to integrate a system that “finds, sifts and sorts” all of my leads for me without bothering all my friends, family members and other “warm leads.” I don’t have to sell, and beg people to buy any products because the website does all that for me! Entrepreneurs: Is Your “Why” Important Enough?

I just wanted to ask you a few questions today…

* What is your “why?”

* Is your “why” important enough?

* What will you do for your “why?”

The “why” I mentioned earlier refers to the reason you decided to become an entrepreneur in the first place. What is your “why?” Is it financial security? Is it vacationing when you want? Is it paying off your bills? Is it your children’s college tuition? Maybe it’s building a community center. Perhaps it is starting a youth program, or a summer camp. Whatever your “why” is, it should be something that is larger than yourself. It should be some goal, or series of goals, that creates value for yourself, and others, creating a positive outcome. My “why” is being able to do the things I want to do, when I want to do them, at my pace, with out anyone standing over my shoulder, nagging me with their own, dysfunctional methods, only to retire to a pittance of a pension, or sometimey 401k plan, subject to any economic calamity. In other words, I have complete and total control over my life and what I do with it, and, the ability to be able to give back and teach others how to do the same.

How important is your “why?” In other words, what are you willing to change in your mindset? What are you willing to do to “rewire” your thought process so you can learn the “how-to-dos,” “what-to-dos,” and “when-to-dos?” I decided to put away everything I thought I knew about starting and running a business and the pursuing of a career and decided to start completely over and be mentored by a group of people, who actually had my best interest at heart and had already achieved the type of success I was looking for.

What will you do for your “why?” What are you willing to sacrifice to make your goals happen? Are you willing to invest the time, money, and fortitude, and relationship building necessary to make your goals become a reality? I made a decision in my mind to do whatever it takes to make the goals happen and never look back. I decided that the “cost quotient” was worth it and took clear and concise action. In learning to be an awesome coach, you must learn how to economize the time it takes achieving the task. Be an active participant by partnering with your clients rather than be a superior to them. This will help you bolster their confidence and trust in you, tenfold. Developing the necessary skills and strong mindset of professional coaches will minimize your workload because you glean from your business partners, clients, prospects, and professional associates, what the tasks actually are, with vast efficiency.

As a professional coach, you must identify what the underlying issues are. Often it is what is NOT said that is most significant. As the professional coach, you must learn to become a much deeper listener. It is a skill you must practice in order to become a master listener and coach. You can use these skills in any of your relationships, personal or professional, and take them to a much higher level.

Make sure the message you send is the same message received. To find out the state and stage of the client’s business, you must place yourself in the other person’s shoes. Listen to what’s been happening in their lives, what actions they have taken, who they circulate with, what their current background is, anything to give you a context on how they might receive your message. You will be able to tune in to what your clients do and say in a way, using your subconscious mind, developing your skills and mindsets. Learn to see what is and isn’t there. Most may not, but, anyone can apply this skill. You must learn how to have a well trained eye to extract the needs in all your relationships.

What actions can you start executing immediately?
Begin with practicing true listening skills—whether you are speaking with a client or family member, associate, or friend, practice being completely “in the moment with them.” Listen to understand, not to respond. Come into their living rooms. Listen for tones, speed, and pauses. They are the signs along the road to let you know what’s really going on. Feel what they are saying and NOT saying. Those will be your clues as to where they are. Check in with them on occasion. Make sure you hear is what is really being said. Apply these skills to yourself. You will be surprised at what you find out! Use all of these extremely important skills to reduce the pressure and stress that comes with being a business owner. I was a school bus driver for 13 years with Winston-Salem/Forsyth Schools.
